When to look
July; early-season Jorō spiders look different from mature autumn females.
Identification
Three July frames show a small web-building spider with a narrow yellow-and-dark abdomen and very long banded legs. Its proportions and pattern are consistent with an immature Jorō, but the spider occupies few pixels and the adult dorsal bands are not developed clearly enough for high confidence.
Lookalikes & limits
Other immature orb-weavers can be similarly slender and striped. This is not confirmed simply because later photographs in the collection show adult Jorō spiders.
