August photograph. Deer use the region year-round.
Identification
Both frames show a slender deer with a tawny summer coat, large ears, pale throat and muzzle markings and the typical proportions of a white-tailed deer. Together with the recorded Flat Rock locality, these support the species. Exact age and sex are not established by these images.
Lookalikes & limits
Elk are substantially larger and show a different neck and rump pattern. The absence of visible antlers alone does not prove sex.
