Two pale moth portraits share intricate dark tracery and ring-like wing markings. Their beauty is clear; their names need a closer taxonomic comparison.
Both files name Henderson County; both show resting moths on wood. Host habitat and feeding ecology cannot be assigned from the resting surface.
A sensible first response
Preserve the original photographs and seek a regional moth specialist’s review. A correct unresolved record is more useful than a confident wrong species.
When to look
Both filenames give August 22.
Identification
Both IMG_0077 and IMG_0081 show broad gray-white forewings, strong dark crosslines, rounded pale marks outlined in black, a furry thorax and banded legs. IMG_0077 is the sharper view. They are grouped for review, not asserted to be one individual or one species.
Lookalikes & limits
IMG_0081 was named Porcelain Gray, but a species-level match has not been demonstrated. Similar noctuoid and geometrid moths require comparison of wing venation, line pattern and posture. Do not merge this record with IMG_0080 merely because their filenames match.
